Amikacin Sulfate molecular structure

Amikacin Sulfate

Also known as: Amikin, Amiglyde-V, Amikin Pediatric

CAS Number: 39831-55-5

Aminoglycoside antibiotic — resistant gram-negative coverage

Pharmacopeia Standards

USPBP

Mechanism of Action

Semi-synthetic aminoglycoside derived from kanamycin A; amide modification at position 1 confers resistance to most aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes (AMEs). Binds 30S ribosomal subunit (16S rRNA, A-site). Bactericidal concentration-dependent killing. Active against strains resistant to gentamicin and tobramycin through AME-mediated mechanisms. Retains activity against most Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter (aminoglycoside-sensitive).
