Mechanism of Action

Prodrug ester of cefuroxime (active moiety). Hydrolyzed by intestinal esterases to cefuroxime after absorption. Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding PBPs. Second-generation spectrum: superior H. influenzae coverage (including beta-lactamase-producing strains), Moraxella catarrhalis, S. pneumoniae, MSSA.
