CAS Number: 86393-32-0

Fluoroquinolone — DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV inhibitor

Pharmacopeia Standards

USPBPIPEP

Mechanism of Action

Second-generation fluoroquinolone that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II — primary target in gram-negatives) and topoisomerase IV (primary target in gram-positives), preventing DNA supercoiling resolution and chromosome segregation. Bactericidal with concentration-dependent killing kinetics. Excellent intracellular penetration. Active against most gram-negative aerobes; limited Streptococcal activity.
