Clindamycin Hydrochloride molecular structure

Clindamycin Hydrochloride

Also known as: Cleocin, Dalacin, Clindahexal, Evoclin

CAS Number: 21462-39-5

Lincosamide antibiotic — skin, soft tissue, and anaerobic infections

Pharmacopeia Standards

USPBP

Mechanism of Action

Lincosamide antibiotic that binds the same 50S ribosomal subunit site as macrolides (23S rRNA — domain V), inhibiting protein translocation. Bacteriostatic at usual concentrations. Spectrum: aerobic gram-positive cocci (MSSA, S. pyogenes, viridans streptococci, S. pneumoniae) and anaerobes (Bacteroides fragilis, Peptostreptococcus, Fusobacterium). No activity against gram-negative aerobes (permeability barrier). Active against many community-MRSA (CA-MRSA) strains depending on inducible resistance (D-test required).
