Mechanism of Action

Group 1 carbapenem with high protein binding (~95%) enabling once-daily dosing via prolonged pharmacokinetic profile. Binds PBP-2 and PBP-3. Unlike meropenem and imipenem, lacks anti-pseudomonal and Acinetobacter activity due to outer membrane exclusion. Active against ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae and anaerobes.

Typical Applications

Community-acquired pneumonia (moderate-severe, outpatient parenteral therapy), complicated intra-abdominal infections, complicated UTIs and pyelonephritis, complicated SSTI, acute pelvic infections, prophylaxis in colorectal surgery. Particularly suited for OPAT (outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy) due to once-daily IM dosing.
