Gatifloxacin
Also known as: Tequin, Zymar, Zymaxid, Gatiquin, Gaty
CAS Number: 112811-59-3
Fluoroquinolone Antibacterial
Pharmacopeia Standards
Mechanism of Action
Gatifloxacin inhibits both DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV with balanced affinity, which raises the barrier to single-step target mutation. The 8-methoxy substituent improves Gram-positive and anaerobic coverage relative to earlier quinolones. Bactericidal activity is concentration dependent.
