Mechanism of Action
Third-generation fluoroquinolone; S(-)-enantiomer of ofloxacin with 8–16× greater antibacterial potency than the racemate. Inhibits both DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV with enhanced activity against gram-positive organisms (S. pneumoniae) compared to ciprofloxacin. Bioavailability ~99% (oral = IV). Once-daily oral dosing.
