Mechanism of Action
Lincomycin binds the 23S rRNA of the 50S ribosomal subunit at the peptidyl transferase centre, overlapping the A and P site substrate positions and blocking peptide bond formation. This is the same binding region used by macrolides and streptogramin B, which is why cross-resistance through erm methylation is common. Action is bacteriostatic against most Gram-positive cocci and anaerobes.
