Meropenem Trihydrate

Also known as: Merrem, Meronem, Meropenem Fresenius, Merowin

CAS Number: 119478-56-7

Carbapenem — broad-spectrum parenteral beta-lactam

Pharmacopeia Standards

USPEP

Mechanism of Action

Carbapenem beta-lactam with the broadest antibacterial spectrum among available antibiotics. Inhibits cell wall synthesis by binding PBP-2 (primary in gram-negatives) and PBP-3 (gram-positives). Stable to nearly all chromosomal and plasmid-mediated beta-lactamases including ESBLs; susceptible only to carbapenemases (KPC, NDM, OXA-48). Penetrates gram-negative outer membrane via OmpF/OmpC porins.
