Oseltamivir Phosphate
Also known as: Tamiflu, Fluvir, Antiflu, Oseflu
CAS Number: 204255-11-8
Antiviral (Influenza Neuraminidase Inhibitor)
Pharmacopeia Standards
Mechanism of Action
Oseltamivir phosphate is an ethyl ester prodrug hydrolysed by hepatic carboxylesterases to oseltamivir carboxylate. The active metabolite is a transition-state analogue that binds the conserved catalytic pocket of influenza A and B neuraminidase. Blocking neuraminidase prevents cleavage of sialic acid residues, so newly formed virions stay tethered to the infected cell surface and viral spread is curtailed.
