Paromomycin Sulfate molecular structure

Paromomycin Sulfate

Also known as: Humatin, Gabbroral, Aminosidine, Leshcutan

CAS Number: 1263-89-4

Aminoglycoside Antibacterial / Antiprotozoal

Pharmacopeia Standards

USPEPBPWHO

Mechanism of Action

Paromomycin binds the 30S ribosomal subunit and causes misreading of mRNA, disrupting protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria and in protozoal parasites that possess prokaryote-like organellar ribosomes. Negligible oral absorption confines activity to the intestinal lumen when given by mouth. Parenteral and topical formulations exploit its antileishmanial activity.
