Piperacillin Sodium
Also known as: Pipracil, Picillin (as piperacillin-tazobactam: Zosyn, Tazocin)
CAS Number: 59703-84-3
Extended-spectrum ureidopenicillin — anti-pseudomonal beta-lactam
Pharmacopeia Standards
Mechanism of Action
Ureidopenicillin that inhibits cell wall transpeptidase by binding PBPs, with enhanced outer membrane permeability enabling activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacteriaceae. The piperazine side chain reduces positive charge, improving gram-negative penetration. Almost always used with tazobactam (beta-lactamase inhibitor) in clinical practice.
