Fluoroquinolone Antibacterial (Prodrug)
Pharmacopeia Standards
Mechanism of Action
Prulifloxacin is an ester prodrug hydrolysed by intestinal and hepatic esterases to the active metabolite ulifloxacin, which inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. Prodrug esterification improves oral absorption relative to the parent acid. The active species produces concentration-dependent bactericidal killing across Gram-negative uropathogens and respiratory organisms.
