Mechanism of Action
Sparfloxacin inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV with enhanced Gram-positive potency conferred by the 5-amino and 8-fluoro substitutions. The dimethylpiperazinyl group at C7 extends the post-antibiotic effect and half-life. Killing is concentration dependent and bactericidal.
