Teicoplanin molecular structure

Teicoplanin

Also known as: Targocid, Teicolin

CAS Number: 61036-62-2

Glycopeptide antibiotic — gram-positive infections including MRSA

Pharmacopeia Standards

BPEP

Mechanism of Action

Glycopeptide with same D-Ala-D-Ala binding mechanism as vancomycin. Complex mixture of 6 components (TA2-1, TA2-2, TA2-3, TA2-4, TA2-5, TA3-1). Lipophilic fatty acid chains enable self-association and membrane anchoring, explaining its long half-life (~100h) and once-daily dosing. Less nephrotoxic than vancomycin; does not require TDM in standard dosing.
