Mechanism of Action
Natural aminoglycoside from Streptomyces tenebrarius; similar mechanism to gentamicin but with greater in vitro activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Binds 16S rRNA A-site of 30S ribosomal subunit. Bactericidal, concentration-dependent. Synergistic with anti-pseudomonal beta-lactams. Slightly less nephrotoxic than gentamicin.
